Editable split-grommet template

Create a split cable pass-through around an existing cable

This removable grommet wraps around a 10 mm cable without unplugging it, then locates in a measured 25 mm panel hole and 2.5 mm-thick panel. Panel fit and cable clearance remain separate dimensions, with a dedicated panel-fit calibration pack.

Cover & protectBuilt with Panel grommet

A flexible dimensional prototype for managing an existing cable—not certified electrical insulation, fire protection, strain relief or a load-rated retainer.

What to measure first

The starter dimensions are there to make the controls understandable. Replace them with evidence from the real part, space and print setup.

01

Finished panel hole

Measure the actual hole diameter at several angles and inspect burrs, paint, edge damage and out-of-round conditions.

02

Panel thickness

Measure the material where the groove will sit, including coatings or layered construction that changes the local thickness.

03

Cable outside diameter

Measure the real jacket across its widest practical section and allow for connectors, bends and permitted compression.

04

Application environment

Identify temperature, movement, abrasion, electrical, fire and ingress requirements that this printed prototype does not certify.

From measurement to printable part

The generator keeps the important decisions visible and carries one parameter set through geometry, inspection, calibration and export.

  1. Measure the panel and cable

Record the finished hole, local panel thickness and cable outside diameter before choosing either radial clearance.

  2. Separate the two fit questions

Panel radial clearance changes the barrel outside diameter; cable radial clearance changes the internal bore. Do not reuse one number automatically.

  3. Set access and retention geometry

Adjust the split gap, lip overhang, lip thickness and edge treatment around the real installation constraints.

  4. Print the panel-fit gauges

Compare the tighter, selected and looser barrel trials, then confirm cable-bore behaviour separately with the actual cable.

  5. Prototype the installed part

Print flat on one lip, install without damaging the cable and assess movement or abrasion without treating the part as certified protection.

Print notes

  • Print the panel-fit gauges before the full grommet, then test the cable bore against the real cable separately.
  • Print the split grommet flat on one lip using a suitable TPU starting profile and inspect the split, bore and groove in the slicer.
  • A printed panel reference adds its own dimensional error, so confirm the selected gauge in the real panel opening.
  • Avoid forcing the split over connectors or cable sections that could damage the jacket or permanently deform the part.

Know the limits

  • This part is not certified electrical insulation, fire protection, strain relief, ingress protection or a load-rated cable retainer.
  • A passing panel gauge does not prove cable-bore clearance, split retention, abrasion life or safe behaviour under cable movement.
  • TPU grade, print settings, temperature and chemicals can materially change flexibility and durability and require separate testing.

Common questions

Answers specific to this starter and the measurements it exposes.

What is the finished barrel diameter?

The 25 mm panel hole minus 0.20 mm radial clearance on both sides gives a 24.60 mm starting barrel outside diameter.

How large is the cable bore?

The 10 mm measured cable plus 0.50 mm radial clearance on each side gives an 11.00 mm starting bore. Confirm it against the real jacket and intended movement.

Can the grommet be installed without unplugging the cable?

That is the purpose of the full-length split, provided the real cable and connector geometry allow safe installation. The split does not itself prove retention or strain relief.

Is the printed grommet electrically safe?

No electrical or fire certification is provided. Material, voltage, temperature, abrasion, installation and applicable requirements need assessment outside this generator.
